The Past
Established in the 1860s, our historic haven has deep roots as a gathering place for fur trappers exploring the wilds surrounding the Sacramento River.
Immersed in whispers and secrets of the era of Prohibition, it served as a clandestine meeting place. Evolving into a cultural hub, The Trap attracted cowboys, gold prospectors, and diverse adventurers, embodying the enduring legacy of those early trappers who sought companionship. Today, this legacy lives on as the bar warmly welcomes travelers from all walks of life.
The Present
In 2022, the riverside gem found new owners in the visionary Lukenbill family. Entrepreneur Mariah and her father, former Sacramento Kings owner Gregg, now proudly steward this cherished landmark.
Fueled by a commitment to preserve the heritage while embracing progress, Mariah and Gregg embarked on an ambitious journey to breathe new life into the bar. With meticulous care and dedication, they undertook a comprehensive reconstruction, addressing every facet of the establishment.
After decades of beer bottles, we now joyfully raise our glasses high to a remarkable milestone - beer flowing from taps!
The Future
As The Trap's construction journey continues, the future unfolds with boundless possibilities. Amidst the buzz of ongoing renovations, events like trivia, karaoke, and vendor markets enliven the atmosphere. With each passing day, our community grows stronger.
As Sacramento's oldest bar, we embrace change, whether in business, construction, art, or design, as new projects emerge.
Come join us on this exciting journey!
